All-Russian Basking Tournament
15 September | Tuesday
10.00 – 18.00
Conference room

We invite lighting technicians, lighting designers and anyone involved in or interested in lighting technology within the entertainment industry to take part in the All-Russian Basking* tournament. Any visitor to the Light + Audio Tec exhibition is welcome to take part.

Essential requirements for participants include creativity, originality, artistic expression, technical mastery of their instruments, and the ability to put on a brilliant show in real time within a short space of time.

*basking – ‘live’ lighting work carried out without prior preparation or knowledge of the material

Take part in the tournament
  • Registration
    To take part in the tournament, you simply need to register for the exhibition. Separate registration for the tournament will take place at the event itself, via a ‘live’ queue, where you will be given a ‘ticket’ for your chosen console.
  • The participant’s task
    The task for participants in the real-time basking tournament is to create a dynamic lighting display for a randomly selected song from a list that will be published on the website a few days before the tournament begins.
  • Terms and Conditions
    Participants will perform using a control console of their choice, provided by the organisers (MA2, MA3, Avolites), or they may bring their own console (the main requirement for a personal console is that it must output 8 Artnet streams).
  • Weights
    The results of your performance at the console will be displayed in the 3D visualiser. The weighting of the visualiser is not known in advance and will only be revealed on the day of the tournament.
  • The preparation process
    Once a participant’s ‘ticket’ number has been announced, they are given 15 minutes to set up their workspace on their chosen console; they may use USB sticks containing any macros, plug-ins or show start-up files. Once the set-up time has elapsed, the organisers display the participant’s visualiser feed on the big screens and play a random song from the list.
  • Voting and selection of finalists
    • Instant feedback: comments from the presenter and the judges immediately after a contestant’s performance has finished;
    • Open voting: an impartial vote by the audience to select the best participants;
    • Valuable prizes from the tournament sponsor.
